T his plein air work was painted during a bright early-fall afternoon atop a rocky overlook at Waikoko on the North Shore of Kaua'i. The small bay at Waikoko is a crystal-clear natural sea pool with shallow edges and a deep center radiating sparkling jewel tones. The crisp white waves near the horizon break in perfect continuity as surfers gaze from the lookout and ride the swell into the warm, golden shore.

The wind was strong this afternoon, and my easel perched upon the rocks as the sun warmed my back. My eyes were fixed on the beauty before me; I slipped deeper and deeper into the present moment and flowed into a vision where the seascape before me melted with my pigments and brushstrokes to become one.
