Tunnels Summer
T his painting was made on a warm, calm day on the seashore of Tunnels beach at the base of the magnificent Makana Mountain, holding herself sturdy and proud above the turquoise ocean filled with rainbow-colored fish and old, wise turtles. The sand was warm like a soft blanket below me, and the sun kissed my back. I painted with strong brushstrokes capturing the impressionistic colors of the day and packed up feeling fulfilled & bathed in the beauty of the afternoon.

Dreaming Tunnels
T his painting was started in the late-afternoon sun and continued to come to life as the sun began to lower close to the horizon line. The electric sun eventually fell beneath the periwinkle-blue shadows of the Makana Mountain peaks, revealing the full light spectrum of the late day colors.
When I looked at the piece back in my studio, I saw something magical about it- something fantastical in the colors and brushstrokes. I started to write swirling letters in the clouds and settled into the way this painting came to shine her light.

Technicolor Tunnels
T his painting started with a hot-pink base, bold brushstrokes, and a few experimental decisions. After the magenta under-painting dried, I took a moment to look at the mountains with imagination- to allow myself to see the colors glowing beneath the familiar colors we tend to assume are there. We often think that these island mountains are simply green, but what if they were purple, mint, blue, and yellow? Allowing myself to express the joy of color without the need to get everything "right" felt liberating. It is another facet of my creativity- one I truly enjoy & will continue to explore.
