Hāʻena Sunlight

This plein air piece was painted on a sun-filled day with strong ocean currrents and seafoam sprays on a pristine, sunlit seascape on the north of Kauaʻi. Shadows painted the sand in soft hues of blue and lavender, while the warm light brought aquamarine clarity to the ocean.

This piece holds the feeling of being completely at peace and immersed in the warmth of one of my favorite places in the world-  a place I have imagined to be my artistic home for half my life. It marks the beginning of my plein air painting journey here and breathes the essence of being aligned, inspired and at ease under the Hāʻena Sunlight.

Hāʻena Dreamlight

This version of the same seascape was painted at dusk, just after the sun slipped beneath the horizon, leaving a pink glow to cover a softly cloudy sky. Light still touched the sand, and the waves continued to crash smoothly but powerfully.

This piece draws inspiration techniques of Renoir, focusing on capturing the softness, light and hum of solitude in a brief moment in time. I painted as dusk deepened, tucking this piece away just as the last light faded, and later completed the last of it's brushstrokes in the studio.
