This painting was done in service to the spirit of Pele. She was created with purely pigmented color (without the use of  white paint). Her hair was born into lava and the Hawaii coastline through natural exploration while originally intending to create a simple portrait. Such is the magic of the art-making process: when spirit moves, and the brush responds.
